Shifting patterns of precipitation and increasing dryness will most likely lead to drought in these parts of the United States. Severe drought will adversely affect agriculture and will cause shortages in domestic water supplies. The increasing dryness will also increase the susceptibility of wild fires in this region. Wild fires threaten indigenous species, agriculture, property and human lives.
