Why would it be a problem if your household appliances were connected in a series circuit

    The one that needs the most power would get the least. Also, whenever any ONE of them was turned off or unplugged, none of the others would work. They would ALL have to be turned on and running whenever you wanted to use ANY appliance. Not convenient.

    A fault will result in a block for all the loads.
