Protons are positively charged, they carry a charge of 1.6 x 10^-19 C whereas electrons are negatively charged and carry a charge of - 1.6 x 10^-19 C, and neutrons don't carry any charge, hence are neutral. The protons and neutrons are located close together in the nucleus of the atom at its center, while electrons orbit around the nucleus. The mass of the electron is negligible as compared to that of the proton and the neutron:

    Mass of electron: 9.1 x 10^-31 kg

    mass of proton: 1.67 x 10^-27 kg

    Mass of neutron: 1.67 x 10^-27 kg
