All matter consist of a nucleus made up of protons and neutrons. The electron revolve around the nucleus in orbits (or shells).

An atom is electrically neutral because the number of electrons in an atom is equal to the number of protons in the nucleus, therefore the simplest atom of all is Hydrogen atom, which consists of one proton and one electron.
