Whenever gold is in the solid state, it has definite shape and

volume. But there's nothing especially "natural" about that state.

When a piece of gold gets warmer than 1948°F, it turns to liquid,

gets runny, makes puddles, and takes the shape of whatever you

pour it into, just like water.

AND ... if that puddle of gold gets warmer than 5378°F, it

evaporates, becomes gold vapor ... a gas ... and no longer has

    definite shape OR volume.

Gold happens to be solid at temperatures that are comfortable

for US. But there's a whole world of things that we never see,

going on at temperatures higher and lower than we can tolerate.
