    Samuel Morse invented the electric telegraph (before his time, there were optical telegraphs, which functioned within line of sight). Another contribution of his is the Morse Code, a Code used to code letters through the electric telegraph.

    Samuel Morse, who's last name would sound familiar to practically anyone, imvented the electric telegraph. Morse code is named after him, and it is the commonly used code to deliver telegraph messages
