Temperate deciduous forest have cold freezing climates. Wood frogs adapted to winter by freezing themselves during this time. Their heart beat and breathing also stop while they are frozen. They prevent freezing in cellular level through a special substance in their body. As soon as the temperature gets warmer and ice melts, the wood frog also thaws and start feeding and mating again.
