A sealed glass jar has a small amount of water on the bottom. the rest of the volume in the jar is taken up by helium gas at a partial pressure of 526 mmhg, and water vapor. if the total pressure inside the jar is 760. mmhg, what is the temperature of the water?

The total pressure inside the jar is 760 mmHg. The partial pressure of helium gas is 526 mmHg. The partial pressure of the water vapor can be calculated by:

    760 mmHg - 526 mmHg = 234 mmHg

Since only water is present in the jar and helium is not soluble in water, the partial pressure of water can also be taken as the saturation pressure. Using the steam table, we can determine the temperature of the water based on the saturation pressure. And the temperature is 68°C.
