The Earth's rotation does, like a basketball spinning

on the tip of Kobe Bryant's finger.

Since the Earth is somewhat bigger than a basketball,

it takes almost 24 hours to do one complete spin.

The sun can only light up 50% of the Earth at a time.

As the Earth spins, it moves you and me in and out

of the lighted half. Any time we're not in the lighted

half, we describe our situation as a "night" status.
