As technology and new discoveries have evolved the atomic models have changed. It began with solid balls because it was thought that atoms could not divided any further. However it was later found that atoms were made up of a nucleus and electrons and the charge was found of each particle. The atomic model of the solid balls no longer fit with the new knowledge of atoms.
