Why are liquids and gasses not good conductors

    The particles are not close enough to spread

    They do not conduct heat very well because the particles are not as close together as in a solid and transference of heat by conduction occurs due to the vibrations of particles colliding and passing on their vibrations. More simply it is because atoms are less densely packed in liquids and gases.
