Cognitive therapists are most likely to encourage depressed clients to stop blaming themselves for negative circumstances beyond their control.

Cognitive therapists believe that cognition (mind, thoughts) is closely connected with emotions and behavior, and that incorrect thoughts can lead to dire consequences. In this case, cognitive therapists will tell depressed clients not to dwell on bad thoughts and emotions but rather to think happy thoughts in order to try and cure their issues.
