The distinction of liberal or conservative is inadequate to address the perspectives of the American people because it is too rigid and requires unwavering set of ideals, as can be seen in the array of partisan conflicts that exist in the federal government today.

The terms liberals and conservatives are simply not enough to explain the complexities of political ideologies in the United States simply because they do not encompass all of the perspectives. Liberals are often described as those who want to use the government to promote social equality while conservatives are those who favor order over social equality. But what about the libertarians for instance, those who don't want the government to meddle at all for example? The political ideologies need to be described and categorized more broadly in the modern political age in the United States.
