While the Middle East Peace process is centered around the Palestinian and Israeli conflict, Egypt has traditionally played a major role.

Egypt is the largest Arab country with a powerful army, the Suez canal and a neighbor of Israel.

Historically, it has fought two wars with Israel, but today, it has strong peace treaty with Israel in place.

Egypt has strong religious ties to Palestine and also have thousands of Palestinian refugees living in the country.

Egypt is seen as a key mediator by Israel and regional powers to maintain peace along the border and try to come to a peaceful conclusion to the conflict.
