Why are relationships with animals more appealing to the narrator than relationships with people?

    Animals are seen as more "innocent" than humans, in most cases. They are seen as more "in tune with nature" and more "perfect" in their behaviors and relationships. In addition, bonding between humans and animals is often seen to be stronger than bonds between humans.
