The incident in question has to do with Roger and Maurice. The two boys exit the forest and begin to exercise their superiority over the smaller children. Maurice begins to kick over sand castle and regrets his mistake. However, Roger begins to pick up a stone and throw at Henry. He ends up throwing and deliberately missing the little boy. This is because he recalls the rights and wrongs of an earlier life. In essence, Roger still remembers the rules of good and bad that he followed some time ago.
