John runs away and finds an abandoned lighthouse, which he chooses as his home. He spends the primary night on his knees in penitence and apology to his divine beings with the goal that he will be qualified to enter the lighthouse and possess it.

One can translate the lighthouse as an impression of the Garden of Eden, an idealistic creation from which God had ousted mankind for their wrongdoing. John trusts this detached space will give a break from the oppressed world of the cutting edge world. He endeavors to atone for his own particular sins to reemerge the Garden yet soon finds that even this space is corrupt.
