How did geography play an important role on the economic development of the three regions? (New England, The Middle Colonies, and The Southern Colonies)

    The Middle Colonies

    -land was flatter and longer summers

    -crops such as grains (wheat, barley corn) could be grown.

    -Commercial farming (farming for a profit) was important along with iron production.

    The Southern Colonies

    -Tidewater region

    -had rich soil, long, summers.

    -commercial farming was main part of economy.

    -Cash crops are tobacco, rice, sugar, indigo.

    -Slave labor important to plantations.

    New England

    Long winters, Short summers, Short growing season only 3-7 months, Rocky soil, Furthest north, Many trees, and Good seaports because of being close to the sea
