I believe the answer is: an external cultural conflict between the traditional schooling expectations of Mrs. Lapidus and Ashoke

Mrs. Ladipus is expected to treat one certain child in a different way than other student due to some traditional value that Ashoke has.

In Mrs. Ladipus defense, Mr. Ashoka also didn't provide sufficient explanation on why the child has to receive the treatment.
