The nature of America's national government is explained in four distinctive words: democratic, Republican, federal and presidential. Define each term.

    Democratic is the process where the population elects at least one person to be in charge of the whole state (country).

    Republic is the type of system where an election for a group of people takes place. Like the democratic system, these representatives govern the country.

    Federal - - The main government (the federal government) is on top. They make the big decisions, where the individual states make the smaller decisions, within the laws of the federal government.

    Presidential - - Two separate elections take place to elect a main leader (the president) and their legislature. For example: We the people pick vote for a person to be the president, as well as vote for a senator/congressman.
