Some people use these terms interchangeable. However, Freedom of Assembly is explicitly guaranteed in the Constitution in the first amendment. Freedom of Assembly guarantees the right of individuals to meet and gather and discuss ideas without interference from the government. Freedom of association is a broader interpretation which is also protected and derived from various measures protecting privacy, involving speech, petition and assembly, but is not as explicit stated like the Freedom of Assembly.
