    The HHS regulations, 45 CFR part 46, contains four subparts and these are the following:

    Federal Policy;

    extra protections for pregnant women, human fetuses, and neonates;

    extra protections for prisoners; and

    extra protections for children.

    The Belmont Report distinguishes three fundamental ethical principles for all human subjects research and these are: respect for persons, beneficence, and justice.
