Which mental skill involves considering ideas outside of your physical experience?

In order to consider ideas outside of my own physical experience I must be able to think abstractly. In order to do so, I must employ my imagination to visualize myself doing things which I have not done. I must also employ empathy to understand the affects of my actions.
