    Behaviorists suggest that maladaptive behavior can be a result of poor learning patterns that manifest and sustain it. When individuals are rewarded for poor behavior, rather than good behavior, they sustain the poor and maladaptive behavior. For instance, if a child keeps crying until his parent gives him a piece of candy, he will eventually learn that by crying and throwing tanturms, his parents will let him have his way
