Starbuck believes that Ahab's obsession is madness, and he adheres to the honor man have to have for nature. he's a careful, quiet, and spiritual man who belives that Ahab's obsession is in direct war with God's will; man ought to never be irritated at an animal for protecting itself; the need to continue to exist is instinctive in an animal, no longer a malicious act.
