The Second Great Awakening was an appropriate name because it motivated the creation of many reform movements to cure the evils of society. The Second Great Awakening in antebellum America in the early 19th century was a Protestant religious revival. Baptist and Methodist preachers led the movement and thousands were converted. Preachers traveled to remote locations with the hope of converting frontier families. Aside from the religious movement, other reform movements took place. People were persuaded to refrain from drinking alcoholic drinks. The women's rights movement fought for women's political rights and abolitionists pushed for the abolition of slavery.
