I believe the answer is: A. Their backgrounds shape the meaning that they give to symbols, actions, and words.

Simple example, when your parents ignore you all day and told you to go to your room and study, children from white family tend to believe that their parents are mad at them. But, children from asian-american culture tend to percieve it as their parents care about them and want them to succedd.
