Balkans is located in a very strategic region that connected the 4 Seas (Black Sea, the Mediterranean, the Adriatic and the Aegean.)

Whoever dominated this region would control the flow of international trades toward almost all existing continent in the world. Because of this, there was a huge tension across Europe regarding who's going to control this region.
