    I believe the answer is: Neither society nor the individual exist in isolation; each is it dependent on the other

    Humans' probability of survival would increase we're a member of a larger group. The different individuals that exist within group usually possess unique skill set/characteristics that would make the process of gathering resources to sustain our living become more efficient.
