The answer is there was no necessary connection between knowledge gained from studying the natural world and the ability to know the essence of God.

According to the nomalism view, people should deny the existence of Abstract Objects in our space and ime but should never deny the existence of Abstract Terms, concepts, and Predicates (such as God)
