    The theory above is incorrect. Discharging feelings diminishes the weight or strain in the individual so they have less negative feelings and are less forceful. Sigmund Freud was the first to utilize purgation hypothesis in mental treatment, in spite of the fact that he abandoned cathartic treatment and invested more energy in therapy.
