Africans might enslave neighboring societies as a result of warfare. Slavery did not exist in Africa until after Europeans arrived. The area of the Gold Coast was the most active area for capturing slaves. More slaves from West Africa were sent to Brazil than to any other single location. European slave traders usually worked with African leaders to capture or obtain slaves. Many African leaders traded slaves for imported sugar and food. The Portuguese are regarded as being the first European power to obtain African slaves for their "New World" settlements. Slaves owned by Africans were generally treated more harshly than slaves owned by Europeans. Which ones are describing slave trade or a impact on West Africa?

    One of the impact would be the increasing civil wars within the territory of West Africa ...

    When the Eurpoean conducted their slave trades, they often hirer African pirates or warlords to provide them with their captives.

    This increase the tenson between several tribes in west afrca and lead to many civil wards among them.
