    I believe the answer is continents

    Wegener based his assumptions on the view that all continents that currently exist in the world are a part of large pieces of puzzle that separated due to the tectonic movement over million of years. (as evidence, he provides the example of how the sides of the continent of Africa and america could be fitted into larger puzzle)
