    The Sinhalese make up 74.9% of the population (conferring to the 2012 survey) and are focused in the thickly populated south-west and chief parts of the island. The Sri Lanka Tamils, who live mainly in the north and east of the island, form the largest minority group at 11.1% (conferring to the 2012 survey) of the people.
