    I believe the answer is: we are both a secular and a nonsecular society at the same time

    A society is considered as a secular society if there is a clear separation between religious institutes and the government.

    Currently, united states still hasn't develop full characteristic of either secular and nonsecular society and still stucked in the middle on some issues.
