    Based on Burgos’s account, the Japanese separated American and Filipino prisoners because "Japan sought an alliance with the Philippines." During the second world war, Philippines was one of the country that the Japanese wanted to colonize and in order for them to gain trust of the country, they had to separate them and talk to these Filipinos.
