Adolf Hitler is usually referred to as a dictator. Under what circumstances would it also be accurate to call him an autocrat?

    Because his government do not had any agencies that operate to check his power and he had the right to rule as long as he live.

    Someone could be considered as autocrat if he had an absolute power in a country. This word is perfect to describe hitler during nazi's rise, when he could kill anyone he want without fearing for any punishment may enforced upon him.
