The Socioemotional selectivity theory was proposed and developed by Laura L. Carstensen, director of the Stanford Center on Longevity, the theory focuses on people's lifespan, in which people's perception of time is essential in the pursuit of purposes and goals, i. e. older adults turning selective towards their social networks, maximizing positive emotional experiences; therefore (c) it challenges the stereotype of older adults being in emotional dispair.
