I would say "C" Created thumbnail drawings of the character's poses.

Explanation:

He is an animator so it would make sense he would raw instead of look at props, and he may look for "reference for inspiration" but it says "live acting" and he is an animator. So drawing thumbnails would be the most logical choice.
