Kelo v. City of New London

    Explanation:

In the case between Kelo and the City of New London, the Supreme Court ruled that the private property can be condemned and transferred to another private individual if it will be of huge economic benefit to the public. Sussete Kelo left his plot of land underdeveloped due to lack of financing, however the land was later transferred to the New London Development Cooporation under the Eminent Domain Act. Kelo sued and the court ruled that the use of eminent domain for economic development did not violate the public use clauses of the state and federal constitutions. On appeal to the US Supreme Court, the victory of the city of New London was upheld.
