SES affects the socioeconomic status tremendously. For example, in America, before the technological advent, the educational level, per person wage, living standards were generally very low. The overall socioeconomic status was poor.

With technological advancements, the energy became cheaper which lead to a better, more financially stable economy. The educational systems were stronger which produced more skilled labor. All of this affects the economy as a whole.
