    Abaraham Lincoln has been using the abolishment of slavery as his main problem during the presidential election. He believed that the industrial revolution which started coming into united states from the northern states would eliminate the necessities of owning slaves, even for plantations.

    when southern states threatened to leave union, Lincoln went out of his way to offer some financial incentives for the southern states to stay. But in the end, the southern states still choose to leave the union (since they didn't believe they could sustain their economy if they abolished slavery) and it's become the main reason for the civil war
