Why was central Canaan a challenging location in which to farm

The following are the reasons why the Central Canaan was a region in which it was difficult to carry out farming:

The absence of freshwater resources in the region. The expanse of deserts in all the neighboring directions and the absence of arable land suitable for agriculture. The hot and dry climate which is not favorable for the growth of most vegetation. The eternal conflicts between the Arabs and the Israelites in the region.
