The Middle Ages began with the fall of the Roman Empire. During that time teachings of classical philosophers were not so popular. The accent was on papacy and Christian religion which controlled teachings on how should people live. For example, if Noblemen were not following the teachings of the Catholic Church, they could be excommunicated. Peasants were under constant hard work which kept them away from arts and culture. Constant warfare prevented people and ideas to travel far which is the reason why people did not care as much about the world around them. This was all to be changed with the rise of Renaissance.
