President Eisenhower officialy recognized the Cuban government, but was greatly disturbed by the fact that there is a Communist country in the Western hemisphere. He imposed were trade restrictions on Cuba. After the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, President Kennedy prohibited all Americans from doing business with Cuba.
