    Explanation: The Americas were not colonized by Europeans until the early 17th century. In the late 16th century, freedom in Europe and freedom were limited depending on the social class to which an individual belonged.

    Society was hierarchical, as it was believed that people could not live equally. There was the monarchy and the Lords who collectively made up the nobility, the middling and lower hierarchies referred to simply as the small and the people or peasants. These had varying levels of wealth and with it authority, power and special freedoms.

    For example, peasants had limited education, resources, and worked the land to make ends meet. They could also easily lose their rights to a farmland and are then forced to move to look for another.
