    D. cut his hair, traded his robes, and became a religious seeker

    Explanation:

After seeing this he left the palace where he lived and gave away or traded all of his belongings and started to preach different religions and universal truths to the people that would listen to him, he became a sort of prophet and religious seeker.

i think the answer is D. he left everything he owned and knew in the castle he grew up in and apparently only had two belongings; the strips of clothing he had on his back and a bowl to plead people for food (supposedly, he only ate a grain of rice a day) and he spent 6 years as a holy man trying to find the answer as to why people suffer.
