The other options of the question were B) closed immigration policies and corruption. C) more cultural and social activities. D) political machines importation of immigrants. E) better housing conditions for immigrants.

The factor that caused cities to grow during the Industrial Revolution was jobs created by growing urban industries.

The Industrial Revolution represented a major change in US history. Poor people and farmers from the rural American areas decided to leave their native places and emigrated to the large cities such as New York or Chicago, where the Manufacturing plants were offering jobs to operate the machines. Although these were low paid jobs under unhealthy and risky conditions, this represented a better life for many people.
