    Explanation:

    African Americans were present on but combative and supportive side of the war; the free slaves of the North joined in either for believe of promised bounties or to pledge their patriotism. To weaken the slave masters, black slaves were recruited to join in. The blacks spent more years in the army about 8years which was unusual for a normal serving British army, showing they played supportive role of been part of the work force.
