The Sophists believed in a relative understanding of truth and of culture. Thus, they challenged that notion that Greek culture was in any way superior to other cultures, or that there were absolute truths as some philosophers taught. They also introduced questionable practices such as teaching for pay. Finally, they made advanced education available to anyone capable of paying their high fees, thus threatening the traditional system whereby the ___ controlled education.
